Normanby Code of Conduct
It is the policy of Normanby Community School to maintain a safe and inclusive learning and teaching environment through the adoption of a Code of Conduct which promotes responsibility, respect, civility and academic excellence, and sets clear standards of behaviour for all members of the school community. The goal is to create a positive school climate where all members of the school community feel safe, comfortable, and accepted.
Be respectful and responsible at all times.
Use acceptable language (e.g. no swearing) at all times on school property, school buses and school sponsored activities.
Behave in a calm and orderly way (e.g. no running and yelling in the hallways).
Homophobic and racist words, phrases, actions or pictures will not be tolerated.
Show care for school property, including school buses. (Students may be expected to pay for damages).
If a student’s cell phone is visible during the school day, they must hand in their device to a location the teacher designates for the remainder of the day.If the cell phone is visible a second time, the student will bring it to the office for the remainder of the day.If the cell phone is visible a third time, the student will bring it to the office and a parent/guardian must come to pick it up.(Other additional consequences may be deemed appropriate by the Principal).
All play and other forms of interaction must be hands off at all times.The personal space of others is to be respected by everyone.
No depictions of violence, profanity, and intolerance of others are acceptable in school life such as in conversations, written work, art, music, online work, etc.
Items like toy guns and other toy weapons, pocket knives, etc. are not permitted at school, even as a costume prop.
Students must ask an adult for permission to leave the classroom so that everyone can be accounted for in an emergency (including going to the washroom). Medical exceptions permitted.
Common societal manners are expected such as please and thank you.
No smoking or vaping on school property.This includes cannabis, electronic cigarettes, as well as supplying tobacco and electronic cigarettes and other accessory products to anyone under 19 years of age.(This falls under the Tobacco Enforcement Officer’s jurisdiction too so they will be notified/involved as well).
